Yes, this is known as "Chlorine Demand." For some pools, no matter how much chlorine is added in, it seemingly ends up disappearing as fast as added.
Usually what causes this is something in the water that consumes the chlorine. There is also another factor such as if a pool has high levels of Nitrates, Phosphates and Cyanuric Acid that may eat away at the chlorine. Once the demand has been satisfied, a pool should be able to hold the chlorine.
On July 19th, 2021 the U.S Department of Energy put into effect new regulations that require all pumps manufactured and imported in the U.S to meet the minimum energy-efficent standards: All manufactured pumps in the U.S require a 50% Hydraulic Horsepower(HHP), which is 50% of the pump's motor Total Horse Power(THP).
This regulation will only effect homeowners starting this 2022 Pool Season in and going forward. If a home owner currently has a 1 or 2 HP pump, and is in need of a motor replacement, the homeowner is now required to replace the entire pump as those motor's will no longer be manufactured.
As of right now, due to the chemical factory fire in Louisiana back in the Summer of 2020, there is no ultimate timeline of when the chemical suppy chain will return to it's normal distribution. We can assure all of our customers that we have a full line of chemical's, parts and equipment. We work closely with all local distributors and leading manufacturers in the Northeast.
